In January 2018, Matt Bentley was off-roading in Utah’s West Desert near the Salt Flats when he spotted something running down the trail. As he approached, he realized it was a dog in a pitiable state. The dog was emaciated, hairless, and deprived of food.

Bentley couldn’t leave her there in that condition and immediately took her to the Utah Adoption Animal Clinic. The clinic provided her with the necessary medical care and attention that she needed. Despite her difficult past, the puppy was still friendly and loving towards humans, and she was given the name Kelly.

After three months of care, Kelly was finally ready to find a permanent home. Jamie Jacques and her family took Kelly in and she adjusted quickly to her new surroundings. She now has a dog companion named Rocky, who is older than her, and they both love each other dearly.

If you were to see Kelly today, you would never guess that she was once the hairless dog running through the desert. Jacques and her family are forever grateful to Bentley for rescuing Kelly and providing her with the care she needed to survive.

More than a year after saving Kelly, Bentley was reunited with her and was astonished at how different she looked. With tears in his eyes, he expressed how impressed he was with her transformation and how far she had come. Jacques was also moved to tears and said, “It hurts so much to know what he did for her, because we don’t know how it would have turned out otherwise.”

For Bentley, seeing Kelly’s progress was like a fairy tale ending to the story.
