When Was Jesus Born?

The date of Jesus’ birth is one of the most debated topics in history. There is no consensus among scholars, and the date that is most commonly celebrated, December 25th, is likely not accurate.

The Bible Doesn’t Give a Date

The Bible does not give a specific date for Jesus’ birth. The closest it comes is in the Gospel of Luke, which says that Jesus was born “in the days of Herod the king” (Luke 1:5). Herod the Great died in 4 BC, so this would mean that Jesus was born sometime before then.

Other Historical Sources

There are a few other historical sources that may shed some light on the date of Jesus’ birth.
