Like most dogs, there’s much more than meets the eye for Justice the Pit Bull. Even though he doesn’t look like your typical dog, he is still lovely in his own special way. He simply had a difficult start to life, which wasn’t at all his fault. Poor Justice was mistreated and abandoned, but he managed to live and eventually survived up at the Shelbyville/Shelby County Animal Shelter. He finally experienced what it was like to be loved and respected as all dogs should at the shelter. Justice is currently defying the odds and loving life. He only wishes that his terrible abusers would be made to pay for their actions.
Defying the Odds
Justice was discovered in Indiana’s streets in 2018. He was about two years old and had suffered severe chemical burns that appeared to be on purpose. He only survived to live alone for a brief period of time, which was a miracle.
The group immediately provided Justice with the necessary medical care. He initially needed to be bandaged. Later, his skin started to heal and some of his fur started to grow back slowly but surely. Even though he won’t ever again appear exactly as he did before the incident, it’s okay. He is adored by the shelter staff for who he is, and it turns out that everyone else feels the same way.
“He was very sad at first,” said veterinarian Jessica Lynch. “He’s definitely come a long way. He has a lot more character now. He’s a very happy, spunky little guy now.”
Justice was prepared to be placed for adoption after receiving medical attention and training for about a year. Even those who resided in other states and countries had already lined up to adopt him! However, due to the vets’ desire to be nearby in case Justice ever required further treatment, the shelter would only accept applications from applicants who lived within a 100-mile radius.
Justice’s New Life
As anticipated, Justice found a home quickly and quickly adjusted to it. His parents continue to post updates about him on the shelter’s social media because he amassed a sizable following there. The kind dog is now enjoying life despite everything he has been through, they have made that abundantly clear.
Training Justice wasn’t simple because of his difficult past. He frequently displayed obstinacy and resisted being told what to do. For this reason, he diligently trained with a fantastic dog trainer named Lexi for more than a year. Over time, he developed feelings for her, and as a result, he is now much more cooperative. Justice only has one more training session with Lexi, according to her.
Every day, Justice feels more at ease in his home. He’s much more affectionate than he used to be, and his devoted parents’ belly rubs are even sought after. Although rolling over may seem insignificant, most dogs interpret it as a sign of vulnerability. Justice demonstrates his genuine trust for humans by allowing someone to rub his belly. He is confident that he won’t experience any more pain while he is with them.
Justice for justice
The shelter made a concerted effort to identify the perpetrators of Justice’s abuse from the start. The reward for this person’s conviction began at $5,000 and has since increased to $20,000 in total.
Unfortunately, there are still open cases, but numerous anonymous tips have helped the shelter get closer. They located a former owner of Justice, who at the time went by the name “Roscoe.” It’s unclear whether the person who made the claim is telling the truth or not when they say they gave Justice away prior to the incident. Sadly, there isn’t enough evidence to convict anyone for this heinous act in either case.
Please contact the Shelbyville/Shelby County Animal Shelter if you have any information about Justice’s situation. He needs to be held accountable for the awful person who hurt him as soon as possible.
