Local Resident Discovers Mysterious Object: “Looks Like It’s from Space!”
Imagine going for a morning stroll and stumbling upon something that seems straight out of a sci-fi movie! Well, that’s exactly what happened to Craig Muir (37) from Hay-on-Wye, Wales, on March 12.
As he was out for his usual walk, Craig spotted a “strange rock” that looked like it had just dropped from outer space, as reported by The New York Times.
Mysterious Monolith
From a distance, it resembled a beacon. A solid silver-colored rock, with no clues as to how it got there or what purpose it served.
In a phone interview the same day, Craig said it looked like “it was just dropped from space.”
This sight immediately grabbed media attention, reminiscent of similar strange objects “popping up” in various locations, first discovered towards the end of 2020.
“It’s probably some kind of art installation. Normally, if you look at it, you could mistake it for a UFO or something from outer space that’s crashed,” Craig remarked.
He described the location of the rock as “out in the open,” with no signs except for a few footprints he noticed. “I don’t know if anyone else has seen it.”
The strange object is described as made of stainless steel, with very smooth, sharp edges, and a shiny surface.
As a stone mason himself, Craig noted that the rock is over 3 meters tall and 0.45 meters wide. He doesn’t know how deep it goes into the ground. The edges are very smooth, shiny, and sharp.
Calling it “a perfect solid rock,” Craig commented that it “looks like the rocks in Egypt” but “made of steel and has no marks on it at all.”
This peculiar rock seems to be made of rust-resistant steel. Craig noted that it could be very heavy as it doesn’t budge even in strong winds.
Being experienced in metal fabrication, he observed professionally that whoever made this solid rock did their job really well.
“There are no visible welds. Everything is very tidy,” he expressed.
Craig clearly wasn’t the only one who saw it. Richard Haynes, who spoke to WalesOnline, mentioned discovering this object while running on Hay Bluff.
“I thought it looked a bit odd and could be a scientific research object,” he said.
This rock in Wales isn’t the first surprising and miraculous appearance. Over a few months towards the end of 2020, similar objects emerged in various places.
A sheep research team in Utah (USA) discovered the first object in November 2020 in a remote mountain gorge in Red Rock County.
That one was dismantled overnight a few days after its discovery, but others popped up in California (USA), Romania, and Turkey.
People often call them monoliths because they’re large, standing upright, appearing in surprising places, just like something from the movie “2001: A Space Odyssey.”
Some have tried to track down the locations of these monoliths, seeking a surreal experience reminiscent of the movie. However, most of them just snap photos with their smartphones and share them online.
Mr. Muir mentioned that Hay Bluff, overlooking Hay-on-Wye town, is a hill located within the Brecon Beacons National Park. Unfortunately, being placed in this location might lead to the rock being removed soon.
