This is Rufus, the victim of a horrific attack. He found safety in the woods, but when he emerged, rescuers were surprised and disgusted to discover what was crawling out of his eyes, ears, mouth and open wounds.

Rufus crept out of the woods, arrived at the NC vet. Rufus coming out of surgery also on today, his day of rescue.

He was infested with an estimated 100,000 maggots, his wounds were treated during surgery and most of the maggots removed.

2 days after rescue, May 17th, Rufus is able to stand and walk for a while!!

16 days later Rufus is doing amazing!!! He’s undergone his heartworm treatment & is ready to relocate to a home! He’s not only trying to appear cool, he’s getting ready for his first laser treatment!!

You can tell this sweet boy’s face is still a mess. He will always carry the wounds of his horrible attack, yet he is sweet as can be!

After 3 months, Look how amazing Rufus looks! And he has a dog pal!! Rufus is doing amazing! He’s such a wonderful child who everyone falls in love with!

6 months since rescue: Now Rufus’s a fast learner. He figured if he enters inside the kitchen he will receive food faster

He is finally feeling like a regular dog. I’m very thrilled that, even after all he went through, he still can play.
