When Kylie Rose Engelhardt was walking down the street in Wisconsin, she came across a dog ᴀʙᴀɴᴅᴏɴᴇᴅ and ᴛɪᴇᴅ to a fire hydrant along with a backpack and a note explaining that its owner ᴄᴏᴜʟᴅɴ’ᴛ take care of it more. Engelhardt assumed the owner would be back in a little while. But an hour went by and no one ever came back for the pup named Baby Girl.
Luckily, Baby Girl didn’t have to be alone in the cold for long. Engelhardt spotted her and stopped to make sure she was OK. Engelhardt wrote on Facebook:” I sat outside with her for an hour keeping her warm waiting for someone to come back but no one did. Next to Baby Girl was a backpack filled with all her favorite things — food, treats and toys, as well as a ʜᴇᴀʀᴛʙʀᴇᴀᴋɪɴɢ note.”
When it became clear to Engelhardt that Baby Girl had been ᴀʙᴀɴᴅᴏɴᴇᴅ, she brought her to the Wisconsin Hᴜᴍᴀɴᴇ Sᴏᴄɪᴇᴛʏ. She wrote:” I did my best, everyone. Trust me, it ʙʀᴇᴀᴋs my heart, too.” The picture of Baby Girl ʟᴇꜰᴛ ᴀʟᴏɴᴇ with her possessions has gained quite a bit of attention over the week. And according to the sʜᴇʟᴛᴇʀ, the 5-year-old dog is doing great.
The owner was a ʜᴏᴍᴇʟᴇsswoman who was going through ᴄʜᴇᴍᴏᴛʜᴇʀᴀᴘʏ and ᴄᴏᴜʟᴅ ɴᴏ longer care for her dog because of her ᴍᴇᴅɪᴄᴀʟ ᴄᴏɴᴅɪᴛɪᴏɴ. Gɪᴠɪɴɢ ᴜᴘ her dog was the very last thing she wanted to do. The former owner called seven different places to see if they would take her dog. She ʙᴇɢɢᴇᴅ an animal sʜᴇʟᴛᴇʀ to take the dog, telling them she had no choice. They told her that she could bring in the dog but she had to wait until the 12th, which the woman could not. So, she had no other options than to ʟᴇᴀᴠᴇ her ᴛɪᴇᴅ to the hydrant in a place she knew she would be sᴀꜰᴇ from traffic and where she would quickly be found.
She said:” It was the ᴡᴏʀsᴛ, it was the ʜᴀʀᴅᴇsᴛ thing I’ve ever done in my life. When I put her on the hydrant, I just saw her face that she was like, mom, what, what, what’s going on here? She was my life, but I know she’s going to be in a better place. I do. I hope she find a fantastic family. She deserves it.” The Wisconsin Hᴜᴍᴀɴᴇ Sᴏᴄɪᴇᴛʏ ended up writing a heartwarming viral Facebook post thanking the owner for doing the best they could for their dog after many ᴠɪʟɪꜰɪᴇᴅ the owner online.
The sweet letter read ” First and foremost, we’re so sorry you had to part with your stylish friend. It’s apparent just how important you loved her and we can see you did your stylish while floundering with your ᴏᴡɴ ᴍᴇᴅɪᴄᴀʟ complications and challenges of life. We see your love in the bag you precisely packed with all of her favorite effects. We see your love in the way you sᴇᴄᴜʀᴇᴅ her leash so she would n’t get ʜɪᴛ by an auto. We see your love in the way you placed her in the middle of a neighborhood where she ’d be snappily plant. We see your love in how happy and healthy Baby Girl looks. And we see your love in the note you left, contending for someone to help her when you no longer could.” The Hᴜᴍᴀɴᴇ Sᴏᴄɪᴇᴛʏ assured the owner that Baby Girl was sᴀꜰᴇ and getting lots of love and attention. That post was liked more than 18,000 times and shared more than 3,000 times.
Baby Girl is doing well and getting lots of attention from sʜᴇʟᴛᴇʀ staff. She loves her walks, toys and performs an adorable ‘sit’ for treats. She’s a happy and affectionate pup. Wisconsin Hᴜᴍᴀɴᴇ Sᴏᴄɪᴇᴛʏ wrote:” Rest assured that she’s safe, she’s getting tons of attention from our team, and she’s on track to find her next loving family very soon. You can rest a little easier knowing your Baby Girl has a bright future ahead.”
